The Race courses on offer are an Advanced Racing Skills Course and a Learn to Race a Yacht Course. If you need to gel your crew or give them some formal training before a major regatta contact us and we will organise the training on your yacht or ours.

Sail in Asia run racing courses throughout the year however we prefer to do this a week or several days before a regatta. This is the ideal time to see how much your crew have learned and how much better they perform on the race track!

Learn to race for beginners

about the course
This course is designed for complete beginners to yacht racing. The course is run from Ao Yon on Cape Panwa, Phuket Island Thailand, by Sail in Asia/Mike Downard.
The object of the course is to intruduce newcomers to yacht racing in a yacht that will allow them to develop skills and techniques useful on a racing yacht. Crew may then join other yacht and compete in the Asian Regattas./span>

what we do
We teach you how to manage sails, to safety use winches and to trim sails. We introduce you to the main elements of a yacht race :

The start
The first beat (leg)
Rounding Marks Setting Spinnakers
Triming Sails
Sailing Downwind
Sailing Upwind
Basic Tactics
Teamwork

what you learn
You learn how to work as a cohesive member of a team responding to the calls of the slapper tactician or team manager.
By Course end you will be able to

Hoist all the major sails on a boat
Work the winches on the boat
Trim Sails
Understand terminology and some tactics in a race
Chang sails efficieatly
Have a range of new skills
Understand the nature of a race

Your instructor
Your instructor has years of experience coaching sailors of all levels of skill. They will encourage you to slowly aaquire new skills, understanding and technique to enable you to become a proficient member of a racing yacht.
Your instructors will give you tuition in the class room as well as on the water. They will use a variety of media to get across the message! Their main aim is to make this racing course fun as well as useful.

This course is designed for yachtman with racing experience. The course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skill and technique. This will improve your performance in a yacht race.
